What are the pro's and con's of having a driver's door (or a passenger door) on a Class A motorhome? I'm just now starting to think about moving to something bigger than our 26 ft. Class C. Thanks for any and all of your opinions. Harvey

When I bought my unit I felt that I needed a drivers door, I have now had the unit 8 years and I bet you I haven't used it twice, and I find that the driver's door is a constant source of wind noise, no matter what I do or how I adjust it, the weather stripping leaks air, and when I drive in winter that means COLD air, if you find a unit that you like, go for it, I would suggest that you do not make a driver's door a purchase point.

Personally, I really enjoy having a drivers side door in my Class A. I use it almost exclusively when traveling.

I agree with Mikes comment. I find it's easier to go out that door then to climb out over the dog house when I need to exit out of the motor home.

I say dont leave home with out a drivers door, I love it. SOOO its just like anything else, its up to an individuals likes and dis likes I guess.

Drivers doors are noisy and leaky. The only time I miss one is when I want to work under the dash.

God forbid you should crash, but a drivers door weakens the structure.

You never said if your asking about a diesel or not. I've never seen a diesel with a drivers door. My last gas class A had a door that never lined up with the frame and leaked air all the time. Don't by a driver door model.

I have a diesel with a drivers door and there is no problems with it. I have Dutch Star Diesel Pusher and most of them have a drivers door. They all work very well.

Opinions on driver doors vary as you have seen here. A few things to consider.
The Bad: 1)they leak air, 2)sometimes water, 3)can be a cold draft, 4)make noise from vibration, 5)generally the first step up is to far off the ground for comfortable use, 6)most manuf. add on cost for them.

The Good: 1)There handy if you have to get under dash, 2)If you have a large dog house (something other than a Workhorse or Diesel chassis) they can be usefull for when just stopping to fuel up.

The choice is yours to make, be happy with what ever you buy, other wise you will have to learn to like what you bought. Just something to think about.
