My husband and I are planning a trip out west with our RV. We want to stop at Glacier Natl Park. Which side, east or west, would be the least crowded?

Don't wory about the crowds, it's not that bad. We elected to stay on the west side at Mountain Meadows Camp Ground (http://www.mmrvpark.com/) in Hungry Horse MT. Go to their web sight and look. Really nice sites, snuggled in the trees. Going to the sun highway is limited to 8' wide(including mirrors) x 20' in length. Don't miss
the Polebridge Bakery on the NW side of the park. Go north from Apgar on Glacier Route 8 Rd., then north on North Fork Rd. Have a wonderful trip.

If you are over 20' long, you will need a toad to see it. You can go up either side, doesn't make much difference. Not crowded at all.

I guess I forgot to mention, we are going out this summer. I am sure it is crowded in the summer but I was thinking the east side might be quieter and less crowded. I would like to know.

We went to Glacier last summer and also stayed on the west side at an RV park near Coram. Sorry can't remember the name. As mentioned earlier, the Going-To-The-Sun Road (Logan Pass) is size restricted. AND believe me, you won't want to drive anything very big on that road! There will also be road construction - part of a multi year project. The road is really beginning to show its lack of maintenance. Having said all of that, don't miss the drive across the park over Logan Pass. Drop dead scenery in every direction. I have a few photos here http://duranash.smugmug.com/Landscapes
We preferred the west side because it is very green and lush - lots of large towering cedar forests, ferns, etc. But of course it rains a bit more on the west side (can't get green and lush without rain). We think the east side feels more "Rocky Mountain-ish" and the west side feels more "Cascade-ish". The Lake McDonald Lodge is very pretty and there are boat rides available there - we enjoyed that. Oh, by the way - when/if you look at the flower shots on my website, there's something that you can't easily see. Mosquitoes - BIG mosquitoes. We were at first disappointed that our RV park was open with few trees - later decided all those lovely shady places might harbor lots of 'skitters. Enjoy

Oh yeah - I second the Polebridge Bakery. Neat little place and a nice drive. Don't sit on the wicker chair on the front porch - my jeans ended up with holes in the seat GRIN.
