can one give me advice,whos experience travelling from california going to yellowstone wy.

What kind of advice are you looking for?? I have traveled several times from northern California to the Grand Teton / Yellowstone area going in both a travel trailer and Motor Home. I now live in Dubois, Wy., which is 54 miles from Grand Teton National Park and 86 miles from the south entrance to Yellowstone.

As far as I Know the roads are good, your only problem area for getting sidetracked is Salt Lake City. I come out of California on Interstate 80 to either highway 89 in Green River, Wy or Highway 191 in Rock Springs, Wy. and head north to the town of Jackson, Wy. From there you can go to the South entrance of Grand Teton National Park and then to the South entrance of Yellowstone. The other route is to go North out of Salt Lake City on Interstate 15 and go into the Town of West Yellowstone and into the West entrance of Yellowstone National park.

Why go into SLC and all that traffic?

Why not turn north at Wells ,NV and go through Twin Falls,ID and Idaho Falls, ID. Just look at a map!

Jack, the reason I went the way I did, is I had other side trips along the way that I made. Plus I used the same route when I would go to Minnesota from California to visit my wife's family. I now just drive 86 miles from the house and I'm at Yellowstone.

I'v done this trip 8 times. The distance from LA,CA to West Yellowstone is approx, 1056 mi.Its a 2 1/2 day trip. The route we take is hyw 15 N. At Idaho Falls, we switch to Hyw 20, which takes us directly to the city of West Yellowstone, Which has many RV accomadations. From there its less than a 1/2 mi to the parks West entrance. We'v found that by staying outside the park and then going in without our rig,we found it easier to get around. Also ,camping inside the park can be rather exciting.
