We still have the mattress, short queen, that came with our T.T.
Where do I buy a better one at the right price?

We found our mini queen to be very heavy but comfortable. At home we used a 5" foam rubber mattresses with a memory foam pad. We liked it so much we put one in the 5er and reduced the weight forward and gave us an equally comfortable mattress. We ignore the fact that it is too small for the support board. If we are comfortable what more could we ask for? The old matteress was placed on our visitors bed.
We bought the mattress at a foam mattress store and the memory foam pad on the internet.

Our MH has twin beds (they only part of it we don't like) and the OEM mattresses were Sealy brand and, like cwsoules', HEAVY. We, too, replaced them with foam but ours was 6" thick and made for sleeping so didn't need anything extra.
We got them at a permanent foam supplier at a BIG flea market/auction. Bought a firm king size mattress and had it cut down into two long twins. Less than $100 for both and much better sleeping.

Our motorhome has a queen bed in back and wish I had Mike's twin beds..Haha Looks like the previous owners replaced the short Queen with a standard Queen from any bedding store. It's a little long but works and sleeps great. I have seen ads in the rv magazine for custom mattresses and the ones with the corners cut off, probably not cheap though. We have an uphostry outlet here in town that sells the big foam if you are leaning that way-can't hurt to check your local phone book.

We bought some 4 inch foam from an upholstery supply. It was a little too firm, so we bought a 2 inch viscolastic (memory foam) topper from
www.foambymail.com
It is so nice now, that the wife wants one for the house, too.

Are you people telling me that you use the foam mattresses on your regular beds at Home? Are they standing up well? The mattress would be alot lighter and easier to lift and turn.

Yes we use a mattress pad warmer on the mattress topper we got from CampingWorld and it contains memory foam. We also have a Tempurpedic mattress that is memory foam at home and it warns you no to use an electric matures pad as it will eventually make the memory foam hard. Since we do not use the electric mattress pad warmer very often, we have not had any adverse effect in the motorhome. But I do not use one on the Tempurpedic mattress, it voids the 20 year warranty.

we went with a short queen airbed (premier)and we are very happy, the only thing that we have to do is when we are boondocked we have to plug in an inverter to adjust the air pressure but once you have it adjusted you usually don't need to do it again anyway, it wasn't any more than a normal mattress but the comfort is unbelieveable, I am in my mid fifties and it is the first time I can wake up without a backache. no I'm not a seller and this is not a commercial. the amazing thing is until we got this bed I didn't even know that my wife liked a soft bed, she always slept on a hard bed to accomodate me, now she gets her side just the way she likes it. if you have any concerns I can email you with what we've done.
thanx

the mattress stores don't like to carry them, no mattress to wear out, so, we went to a R V outfitter,
http://www.rv-tech.com/
We got the phoenix, it's a little high (10")but heaven when you get on, just a word of advise, don't get the memory foam, it just makes it hard to turn over, also you don't need the foundation, oh and one more thing, we also got the nautalus air bed in our house, it was way more expensive, and I actually preffur the phoenix, about half the cost. also for those considering the weight aspect, she says that unless the bed is made with the blankets and stuff sometimes the gas struts will actually lift it a bit while we are driving so I guess you could say that an airbed saves weight. any other questions bufprod@telusplanet.net

We are considering purchasing an air mattress for our motorhome and have some questions I hope those who have used them can answer.
Interested in those mattresses that have separate adjustment for each side. One brand makes a big deal of their numbered settings, which seems like a good feature for returning to the same setting. It would think that mattress settings would have to be adjusted to compensate for elevation changes and very slow air leaks. Is this true and are there other reasons that are less apparent?
Then there are 'memory foam' toppers. I remember someone making the comment that they make it more difficult to turnover during the night. Do others find this to be true and if so do you find the increase in sleep comfort enough to offset this? My wife has fibro myalgia and I hope that an air mattress will help her sleep better.
Would be interested in positive or negative comments about the individual suppliers/mfg. as to responsiveness and reliablity of service and quality of product.
Thanks to all in advance.

the memory toppers give apparent full body support
but is not nessesary when you already have an air bed, also being as you sink into the toppers a certain amount they tend to make you sweat, and if you are slightly clostrophobic they can make you feel trapped.
We bought the topper and quickly discovered we didn't need or want it, so we took it out of our mattress and we have been quite happy ever since.
I don't think the numbers on the remote would matter, it is just a matter of each company needs something to prove that their unit is better than the next guy's.
Quite often I or my wife will change the hardness on our own sides and we don't even bother to turn on the light to do it, so what good would numbers do? I just push the button till I'm comfortable. If the whole idea is infinite settings available for comfort's sake, then what do numbers matter.
who says that today I will want what I wanted yesterday.
as a matter of fact I usually adjust my bed at least twice a night, very firm when I first go to bed to straighten and reclick my back, medium after a couple of hours for my knees sake, and soft and cuddly in the morning. I mounted my remote on the headboard so I couldn't see numbers even if there were any. A word of advice, make sure you get two remotes so you aren't digging for it in the middle of the night.
We have an air bed in our house and another one in the motorhome and haven't had any problems with leaks and I don't think altitude would be that big of a problem, but then I am always changing my settings so I wouldn't know.
In an R V if you are boon docking you will need an inverter to power the air pumps should you want to change your pressure but if you don't need to change then the beds will stay up to pressure just fine.
any other questions?

RE_Wife with FM and memory foam topper--I have Chronic Myofascial Pain Syndrome--a related disorder and cannot believe the difference our foam topper made. Felt a difference the very first night and much less morning pain--not completely gone but a huge improvement.

We purchased a rather expensive air mattress with lots of sleep support levels to choose from. I balked at the price and now that I have slept a year on it, wish my bed at home had one. Has been a godsend compared to the awful bed that came in the new RV. Until we got the matress replaced, we always woke up tired and stiff. No MORE!
For us the expense was well worth it and won't leave home without it again. If the RV is recylced for newer bigger/better some day, the air mattress will come out and the old awful bed goes back in before it gets traded......

We know exactly what you mean, only we bought one for the house first and then got one for the motorhome, and we kept the old motorhome mattress wrapped in plastic, if we ever upgrade or sell our R V, the airbed stays with us. worth every penny.
