Jim R User ID: 0498634	Apr 17th 3:21 PM Hi again I have a Onan 6.5 NHE which will not start have no spark at plugs and the unit has 100 hrs its a 1990 hrs were used to exercise the unit??? Anyway I would think there is a proper way to troubleshoot this problem(which I don't know) but do hope someone here can help me with.It turns over and its getting fuel but no spark.What part does the low oil sender play. jd User ID: 8102723	Apr 19th 8:39 PM If the genny thinks the oil pressure is low it will cut off the ignition. The manuals are good. If you follow the troubleshooting charts, it should get you to the problem. God Bless, jd

Jim R User ID: 0498634	Aug 9th 7:19 PM Well found the problem at last a the points were in bad shape,took them out and cleaned and filed with 600 grit and way we went.Not the way I would like as there is still a miss in the gen.when running with my hand on the fan cover I can feel a inconsistent miss Iam told that it my be the condenser??.Priced out new POINTS!!!are they ever pricey Does anyone know of another source than Cummings who now owns Onan and they think they are made of gold.Also looking for a better price on a carb. kit also for the 6.5 Onan.Sorry this took so long but I do move slower today than yesterday Jim
jd User ID: 8541163	Aug 9th 8:52 PM I understand NAPA has some parts for ONAN. I don't recall the points being all that expensive, but times could have changed. If one or the other "point" surface stuck up and the other down, it's an indication of wrong condenser value. I had my ONAN carb rebuilt by a local fuel system shop. THEY can still get the parts. ONAN won't sell them to us. God Bless, jd
Jim R User ID: 0498634	Aug 10th 12:08 AM jd we can go direct to Cummings who now owns Onan and get the parts but they don't take it easy on the price as they are the only show in town so far but I'm looking and asking heres an example a carb. kit three gaskets two needle valves and a needle and seat 112.30 seems a little over the top??
jd User ID: 8541163	Aug 10th 6:49 AM Jim, a little too long ago to remember the details, but I thought they'd quit selling carb kits. Some of that's justifiable because those little passages are very hard to clean. Again a shop pulls a carb, tries to clean, reinstalls and finds it doesn't work, they head toward simply replacing the carb. I pride myself on being able to repair small engines and I was never able to clean my ONAN carb. There've been two small carbs I couldn't fix, neighbor's Sears mower [and I've done dozens], and that ONAN. My choice was a new carb, and I thought it was in the $130 range, or have a shop rebuild it. I don't think they offered a kit for our BFA. Chose shop, price was about $60. How much is a Governor Spring? Mine turned out to be a cause of "surging" once I got the carb settled. I paid around $2 at Cummins/ONAN parts dept. God Bless, jd

jd User ID: 8541163	Aug 10th 1:20 PM Before I forget, what is the problem you're currently after? If it's an old genny with a mechanical governor and surging, I'd say replace the spring and see what happens. On ours, I couldn't adjust the needles. One was of no effect. After I got the carb back, I could adjust but it still surged. Changed spring and all's been well since. The manual has a series of adjustments, how many of them can you make? Check your progress through those against the troubleshooting charts. At a point, before dismantling the centrifugal governor "cup", they suggest changing the spring. My case, it worked. Jim R User ID: 0498634	Aug 10th 6:13 PM jd it has a slight surge but there is a also a slight inconsistant miss only really noticable with your hand on the genny fan housing you can feel it. It stumbles when the air is turned on and more so when both are calling for cooling it then smooths out somewhat.jd the govner spring sounds like a cheaper thing to try sure won't hurt any. Jim
Jim R User ID: 0498634	Sep 17th 1:08 AM Hi guys This a update had to go to Cummings for parts :-( thats the bad news the good news is SHE is running very good found some after market items Champion plugsRS17YX,Autolite 106,NGK-TR5. Changed plugs,condenser,points and also on the advice of jd changed the governor spring well it runs very smooth I'm happy but on to the next thing flooring repair oh my before we go south this winter I will list all that has been done Jim
