Can the AC on the Bantam B19 trailer be recharged? We've owned this camper 2 years, only used the AC a couple of times, maybe 2 hours total use. Getting it ready for a trip and tried the AC, the compressor comes on but no COLD air comes out. Asked a service man at a large RV dealership, he said the AC on RVs are crimped so they Can't be recharged. Is this true? You need to buy a new one?

I'm not familiar with the Bantum B19 but with RV air conditioners, a port can be added to add freon to a closed system such as an RV AC unit. If it is in fact, out of Freon, since this is truly a sealed system, there HAS to be a leak that should be found first before it can be recharged. Depending on how old it is, it might not be worth the cost of repairing it.

If you want to look into it, I would suggest calling some other AC service places you might find in the yellow pages or perhaps another RV dealership. I have known of some with the expertise to do this job.

What Steve said- with a couple of additions. Try to find a real HVAC service place that will work on your AC. Make sure they braze fittings on, and don't use those clamp on piercing fittings, and make sure they add a weighed charge- and don't just hook up the gauges and keep adding until it "looks right".

Another point- if you bought the AC new, it might still be under warranty (DuoTherm has a three year warranty).

Are you sure that the compressor is running, not the fan? Are you using an extension cord? If you are using a long cord or a no. 14 or 16 extension, you may not be getting the amps necessary to kick the compressor on.
