Hello, my husband said that we should not leave our travel trailer plugged in, that it will overcharge the deep cell battery. He said when I get to a camp site, I use the trailer for dog shows, that I should disconnect the battery. I have never seen anyone do this. Is he right?

Most modern converters charge deep cycle batteries until they are full and then drop to a trickle charge so as to keep them topped off but not overcharged.

It defeats the purpose of the converter to disconnect the deep cycle batteries when connected to shore power. In some cases, the batteries must be connected or the converter won't work properly.

We leave our MH connected to shore power 24/7 when in storage at our home and do not disconnect the batteries.

If you provide the brand and model number of your converter we can check further for you.

Thank you, I will have to go out in the trailer and look. It is an older Scotty Regalia, 1986. I will see what the converter is and get back to you.
